David Oleski. b.1961. Boston, Massachusetts; education: 1983, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland; currently living in West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA. David's parents attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design together, and their influence provided a supportive climate for his early creative development. In a fairly quiet youth spent in the fields of Lancaster county he developed an introspective view of his own inner world. Art school seemed a logical choice to escape from this idyllic world, and he was eager to embrace some aggressive new ideas and concepts of challenge and accomplishment. David has since found a voice in his version of an intense scrutiny of the world around him. Following in the footsteps of the 19th century Impressionists, he continues to explore increasingly fragmented views of simple still lifes. He captures a sense of rhythm and atmosphere with sophisticated colors, and thick and deliberate brushwork. After graduating from art school, a brief hiatus from painting lasted for the next 15 years. During the very last days of 1998 he was sitting in a cafe in Quebec City, and very quietly decided to start painting again. In early 2004 he moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he will continue his studies in a new studio, surrounded by the wooded hills and open fields of Chester County. He continues to develop an extensive and colorful website which chronicles many aspects of the life of an artist. This website features an online gallery, a live video broadcast from his painting studio and an ongoing journal of his painting experiences.
